What is DataFace?

DataFace is a schools-based programme that empowers students to explore real-world issues through the lens of data.

Designed by Cheltenham Festivals' Learning & Participation team, the programme builds students’ confidence in working with data – from understanding and interpreting it, to telling compelling stories through creative visualisation.

Using four core datasets covering environmental responsibility, gender equality, the cost-of-living crisis, and global literacy, students develop essential skills in data handling, critical thinking and communication. A series of short, accessible teaching videos supports learning throughout the project.

Each school delivers the programme independently, culminating in a visual storytelling showcase. The winning team from each school is then invited to present their work at a final exhibition and competition at Cheltenham Science Festival.

DataFace encourages young people to ask better questions, uncover patterns, and share the stories that matter to them – all through the power of data.

DataFace is about resilience, thinking skills, metacognition - the skills our young people need for the real world.

Teacher

DataFace is a really good way for us to find different ways to interpret and manipulate data and display it in creative and fun ways.
